So far,,,,,,,,,, 9th in practice with only 6 laps in. The usual bunch in the top 5, Harvick, Logano, Truex, Gordon and JJ. Only half second off fast time.

When you say half second it puts it all in perspective.

1st Practice over, JR improves his speed and time but stays 9th, less than half second .4 off Harvick fast time, and only .2 of a second of Logano with 2nd fastest.

A person blinks in a 10th of a second, JR just 2 blinks out of second fastest. LOL

Looking like rain will be a serious issue on Sunday. We may just have a Monday race. Boooooo!

Junior will start 14th on Sunday. The other 3 Hendrick cars make it to the final round.

I saw a photo of Greg debriefing with Junior after the round. Greg had to be thinking, "Why can't I get this guy to qualify better?"

Probably.

I think that the qualifying format is really hurting him. He usually qualifies pretty well in the first round. He just can't repeat it.

JR said he couldn't keep it full throttle threw the corners, that's car not driver. Without full throttle and only 3/10's of a second off fast time isn't bad. That tells me he has good straight a way speed. A decal in the wrong place can take a tenth of a second.

Fair enough. The car will be fine on Sunday. Hopefully they can find just that little extra to put him in victory lane.

Well, it is partly driver. Did you see Gordon's onboard? He was fighting it but he still stayed full throttle.

I'm not saying that it's all on Junior. The car probably does need to be a little better. I would say that it's a bit of both.

Ever since Junior became a team owner he seems extra concerned about risking a wreck. That carried over to his Cup driving team too it looks like.
